![]() The only positive aspect Fallout 4 brought to the series was the weapon customization/crafting. I love Fallout games, even Bethesda's and Nuka World made me quit. It was the least Fallouty Fallout that Fallout has ever gotten. It was the first time I ever quit a game because of how much it was pandering me. The DLC was so incredibly disappointing because on one hand you have Far Harbour which I think is about as good and as close to the feel of the original Fallout as Bethesda has ever gotten, the goofy Automatron which was just a mediocre quest and more mindless busywork but Nuka World just broke me in how pandering it was. The game is much more concerned about making you feel like you're well treated and pandered by every single faction in the game than it is trying to do anything else. There's no difficulty curve at all, the game throws you arguably one of its toughest enemies in the introduction section and whatever challenge you might feel like you have from that point onwards rely solely on your desire, or patience, to go back to your base and grabbing your power armor. The difficulty feels like a walk in the park from midway through and it feels like the game is very content in not moving society forward.įallout 4 is the most pandering RPG I've ever played, I'm not even sure if I can call it an RPG because of how pandering it was, there's only one meaningful decision you have to make in the entire game and it's a stupid one that involves you killing almost every character you've had meaningful interactions with. It's very binary in terms of its moral system whereas previous Fallout games felt like they cared less about the morality of your character and more about giving you options to clear different challenges through use of ingenuity or particular skills. Where it starts to fall apart is in the writing and lore of the world which feels like a very uninspired version of one of the most inspired or iconic locations in America. I only meant to do a paragraph but man once I start going on those two gamse I can't stop myself.įallout 3 feels like a massive step forwards in terms of graphics, as a Fallout fan it felt amazing to see iconic creatures and even some characters from the past fully realized in 3D and at those moments the game is at its best. Now, if you'll indulge me, a small big rant. ![]() I'm going to do you all a favor and spare my criticism of Fallout 3 and 4 and try to sum it up in a single sentence for those who don't want to read rants.įallout 3 and 4 are good games but they are bad Fallout games. I don't know why they went back to bottlecaps, even fallout 2 did away with them and just had 'money''. 3 onwards definitely takes the wacky side and runs a bit more with it. I think the 3D games lean more into the wacky side of fallout, having recently played 1 - it's sort of darker, more serious, and linear compared to 2 which had a fair bit of comedy and easter eggs, maybe too much. New Vegas was more in line with what I wanted from a 3D fallout, and 4 I enjoyed but thank goodness I played on PC so I could add a mod to label repeating quests, I got a bit pissed off being sent to the same outpost multiple times. I thought they made the brotherhood of steel a bit to 'friendly' compared to 1 and 2. I was excited for 3 to come out and enjoyed it a lot, I thought they did a fine job of translating it to 3d, and the story was decent, though I thought it sucked you couldn't play on after the end (later rectified by a DLC). I discovered fallout 1 from just liking the box and played and replayed 1 and 2 a lot back in the day.
